The expected God of War 4 release date is yet unknown, but we do have proofs that gow IV will definitely be an online multiplayer experience.
UPDATE: PSM3 has received some serious information from an unnamed source which claims GOW IV is coming September 2012.
God of War 4 Release Date
We can rest assure there’s a God of War 4 on the works, and it seems that at least part of it will be an online multiplayer experience. This notice, posted in the site gamasutra reveals the Sony Santa Monica studios is indeed hiring a Senior Online Programmer to join their Join the God of War team. We highly expect to receive a god of war 4 release date soon, as the game starts being developed. The rumoured year of release is 2012.

I can’t believe they are making it multiplayer. It takes out all the fun of doing the story line yourself. Extra content, yeah I don’t mind. I’ve been really thrilled for the game to come out but this is the first time I’ve heard it be multiplayer. I just hope they don’t screw up the game that way.

I agree completely… The only way their going to make it multiplayer is if they make it where you make your own character or some cheap crap… I’ve spent 5 games and a comic book series identifying with kratos and everyone having their own personalized character would only diminish the GOW experience

The story is over. Everybody is dead. Kratos is dead. I love God of War, but leave it alone. The ending was epic and it should stay that way. We dont nead one more game like Assassins creed which will have gazilion sequels. They just want to squeze a few more million dolars.

They are giving the REAL fans what they want , and having been at gown since ps2 I’m very much looking forward to multiplayer with my mates . And as much as I loved Maually stringing huge weapon change combos anda awesome combat .. gow3 was missing some of the gow atmosphere somhow , even sony santa monicA probably knew that .
Roll on gow4 !!! Everyone stop all the ” story an kratos are finished ” shit .. how small minded a thing to say that is , ridiculous . I have a feeling the 1 player game will have you meeting demios an from there on you play as him . 2 player may be a bonus after completing the game.
And … dave jaffe would like some Zelda design in gameplay , so yeh we may see a touch of darksiders/god of war , maybe

I am sorry REAL GOW fan. I am a big GOW fan to. I think that Greek mithology isnt explored much, and it should have. But, I know what i meant when i say that they want more money. Look at Prince of Persia series, Assassins Creed series, Zelda series, MGS series,… People who make games should be more creative, and make new series, and not milk the cow to infinity and deyond. As for Demios, anybody who played Ghost of Sparta for PSP knows that he died, and was buried by mysterious guy( Zeus) . And Zelda design! HaHaHa… (two old men on balcony laughs from Mupet Show)! I think that multiplay is a bad idea for this kind of game. If fans want hack and slash multiplay let them wait for Diablo 3, or play good old Guild Wars PVP,…

Why everybody here is thinking of Athena as the new “Nemesis” of Kratos? What about the name “Deimos”, doesn’t it ring you any bells?! Yes, Deimos, the brother of Kratos… The one who built a deadly rageous hatred for his brother, considering him responsible for his eternal torment, blaming him for failing to prevent his abduction from Ares and Athena (in their attempt to avert the prophecy of “The Marked Warrior”), seeking revenge from the depths of the Underworld (the domain of death)! It would also be very interesting to point out a specific detail; According to my country’s Ancient History & Mythology, Deimos (Δείμος) was the God (daimon) of fear, dread and terror!!! So, I am pretty sure that we will have to do with a brand new epic battle of Gods, the God of War VS the God of Fear… The same blood will collide!!!

Also, if you remember the final video in GoW3 (the one that comes up right after the End Credits), the camera takes the Point-of-View to the cliffside, with Kratos’ body missing and his blood “painting” a straight line towards the cliff… But the blood is not in the form of drops (which would mean that he walked to the cliff and escaped/jumped. The blood stains form lines in a way that leaves us with the assumption that Kratos was DRAGGED TO THE CLIFF BY SOMEONE ELSE!!! (Deimos maybe?!?)
