God of War Movie

The first Time fans heard about a a God of War Movie could possibly become real was when the first GoW was released. David Jaffe wrote a script himself and the speculation started. All that buzz was in 2005, and long time has passed by. And since Sony will probably announce the next God of War in the next E3, maybe this film project will be considered again.

God of War Film

The first rumor about a possible director for a God of War film was Brett Ratner, and that rumor has been replaced since then. GoW 3 game director Stig Asmussen, didn’t deny or confirm a GoW script, he simply said in an interview that the studios don’t have control on the movie production itself.

John Hight, the God of War Team product development chief, stated that none movie studio has so far contacted them with updates on the movie script, this was in march 2010.

But what are the thoughts of GoW mentor, Davif Jaffe?. He said that is not Sony’s priority to go forward with the God of War movie. So far, there’d been 3 drafts from Mosaic Entertainment, the studios in charge for the film production, Jaffe believes that the people writing the scripts are actually awesome and they have worked on great scripts before.

Now, even after all the downsides and bad news, there’s an interview with Brett Ratner, who apparently confirms the making of the God of War film.

Our thoughts on this are the following: Since God of War 4 will probably be released next year, there wouldn’t be any better timing to finally produce the movie and launch it just a bit before the game itself. Movies like Braveheart, Gladiator and Troy have been incredibly successful, and GoW storyline does provide plenty of background to write a nice script, without making major changes to the original video game plot. Sony needs to be careful that the movie is not just made to make quickly millions of dollars, leaving aside the original storyline. They don’t need to add extra characters or scenery, since it’s all already there, the franchise does provide them already with the content. Science Fiction + Greek Mythology = Win.

A question that still remains among fans is, who could be the right person to impersonate Kratos?

I say make the entire movie CGI like they did for Avatar and Bewolf and make it an epic film like the Lord of the Rings and you will have a kickbutt movie. They should make all the super hero movies CGI. CGI allows you to remain true to characters and costumes . Use the technology !!!

The best choice for is Gerard Butler, He doesn’t have the phyique, but he has the right type of voice and could act like major bad a**

    Chris Reply:

I agree, he was a bad a^^ Spartan in 300. Otherwise I don’t really see too many candidates in mainstream Hollywood, so maybe someone less known of could do it…and not that bonehead from the new Conan.

I think that it would be awesome if they made the whole movie CGI like the intros to the console games (using better graphics and animations than the in-game cutscenes). It would be really expensive, but they could keep the same voice actors, and none of Kratos’s attributes would be lost in translation.

I very much agree. CGI would be the best medium since there aren’t many worthy mortals to choose from.

Ya I think the Rock can pull it off but the CGI scenes that have come out from the GOW games would be best to go in that direction like FF advent movie. Can’t wait either way GOW has all the attention it deserves thanks to all who have made such a bad ass game forever.

he does have the right physique… he just needs to build a little more and he has it

  • Robbie says:

If they hold on to the same story-line and characters, titans etc. of the games (1,2,3) it would be a great movie!!!
    Maybe Vin Diesel as Kratos???

  • Tayboogie says:

I think “The Rock” can pull it off. Now that he has the bald head, he looks the part.

    osiris Reply:

yes man the rock, He would be the best actor for the film, but i think if they make the movie from the beginning

  • JoshBro says:

No!!! Dwayne Johnson(the Rock) as Kratos!!!!!
He has the character, the voice, and the physique of kratos
    The perfect kratos!!!

  • Sammy says:

The only thing that should matter is that they hire a GOOD ACTOR!! Not a ***** bodybuilder or a wanna be hollywood star!! Because if the actor can´t bring the character of kratos then this movie will SUCK HARD!! :( and thats what I am afraid of!

    wade Reply:

No Rock, no Vin Diesel. Someone mentioned Tom Hardy, which would be interesting to see

    tim Reply:

im really worried about the actor bc after reading this board many of the people being mentioned only have a few qualities of kratos, nobody is the perfect fit, and the acting is VERY important, otherwise the movie will suck, just like prince of persia and street fighter. the experience was just ruined bc of the actors

  • anon says:

If you think about it the rock has the perfect face structure too. He might not be able to do some of the stunts though. Picture him bald and with the scars and all. It would be sick.

  • Deanie says:

What about that Dude that acted in Conan, he’s got the voice for sure, and the build, and he’s not a bad actor. In Game of Thrones he was also a good actor. The only thing is does he have the right shaped head?

    [Reply]

  • I’d rather they don’t cast some bonehead like Vin Diesel, would much prefer to see someone that could believably pull of the stunts and whose acting was up to scratch.

Movies like prince of persia show you how terrible they end up when they’re more pre occupied with physique or good looks, good god the dialogue and storyline we’re awful.

  • Brad Sander says:

i think that it could still be T.C. Carson, since he has the voice, all he needs is the makeup.

The way he acts does not match Kratos. Also Kratos’s voice is way more awesome than Van. i think they will ruin the movie if they choose him.
i guess the most perfect actor for this part is The Rock.

  • Matt says:

I think that THE ROCK (dwayne Johnson) would be great for the part. He has the right build and height and and phisical appearence just like kratos except for the voice, Gerard butler has the voice for the part but not the body

  • mubarak oriadetu says:

Vin diesel is the perfect match he has the physique, voice, action, skills he’s good to go

Anybody but that dude from twilight. And I think it should br an epic three part 6hr movie. And you have to give the greatest game ever justice. Don’t ruin g.o.w. film. Like prince of Persia. Don’t use a pretty boy. Kratos is far from pretty. Don’t fuck it up!!!!!!! Please!!!!!! My Favorite game is God of War!!!!!

    [Reply]

  • Jon says:

Jason Statham, if he can project his voice very deep he would be completely perfect for the part of Kratos. But I sure hope they keep to the story line and give it justice. We don’t need another disaster like the DBZ movie :/.

  • aizyzai says:

i think Matthew McConaughey actor reign of fire as kratos.

  • Ry Bread says:

Vin Diesel would only cheapen the film. He’s a horrible actor… you might as well cast Steven Segal.

Dwayne Johnson doesn’t have the voice or the look…

Statham would also cheapen the film.

They don’t have to cast someone with the same physique as Kratos. It’s called special effects. You saw what the did with Xerxes in 300. You guys know he’s NOT that tall in real life, right?

Anyway, doing this film would be horrible. We don’t need a movie rendition of every great game. So, I say don’t do this film at all.

    [Reply]

  • Ry Bread says:

Also, Butler doesn’t have the voice… You know he’s scottish, and the guy who does Kratos’ voice is black.

  • Zak says:

    Bill Goldberg is actually Kratos.

  • nicholas says:

i think that tom hardy could be good cuz he’s got a good action rep behind him,and i think gerard butler can be zeus, as for ares i think ray stevenson is a good choice, as for people thinking that vin or dwayne johnson or djmon hudson not to start anything but vin and dwayne lost their action rep when they played the pacifier and the tooth fairy and djmon is getting a little too old he’s got a the complexity no doubt buti don’t think he’s got the edge he used to, and i think hayley atwell could be athena just to throw that in.

  • Michelle says:

I believe the man who voice kratos should steroids up and play him, kratos isnt a white man so a white man playing him might not be very well done, but if they were to choose a white man i would go with Gerard Butler as well, and he sooo does have the body, thick chest and shoulders, abs, everything needed

    [Reply]

    daniel Reply:

are you serious? kratos is a white guy! the VOICE of kratos is black but the character in the g.o.w series is WHITE, go play the first g.o.w and look for the cut scene where it shows how he got the pale white skin, he was a white guy before the ashes of his murdered family became a part of him

  • gio says:

i ve read the comments and i totally disagree with an actor doesn’t resemble a greek appearance after all kratos is a spartan aka a greek. I would prefer butler, otherwise if terry crews for example is a choice, they could put chuck norris to play kratos as well.

instead of thinking of big time actors for the role of Kratos. I know the perfect guy for it. Check out Dominic Purcell. Not to sound gay or anything but he has the body and the look for it.

    [Reply]

  • Mark C. says:

Michael Jai White should play as Kratos. He has the body. The voice the bad ass attitude. Just look at what he did in spawn. He’s about 45 years of age. I think Kratos is around that age in the game. I mean who else would be a better candidate? Vin diesel? No. Not loud enough. Kratos is loud and ruthless. vin is not. Anyone agree with me.

  • Matt says:

u have to get some one new to set the mood right. It has to be a new screen face. But I did think Jason statham would be alright for it. I just don’t want it to suck. That’s all. And neither does anyone else.
