Joystiq contacted both Sony and Timothy Williams. Sony replied saying they “do not comment on rumors or speculation about our products”. However, Williams confirmed the listing as legitimate:
Timothy Williams confirmed the listing as accurate to Joystiq and explained that he is, “working on it in the capacity of orchestrations and some additional music,” but wanted to note that Tyler Bates is the “main composer” and should be listed as such. Bates had yet to return request for comment as of this update.
PSM UK Magazine published a rumor a few days ago, saying that the next GoW will feature an online co-op mode, which includes Kratos and his brother Deimos.
Below you can see a screenshot from Timothy Williams’ resume, which clearly lists GOD OF WAR IV (upcoming) as one of the projects he’s worked/currently working.

The age of the single player game coming to an end seems to be upon us with this, another series that was known for its single player epicness, now has online multiplayer. Dear heavens.
This is interesting news. Im curious how epic this game will get.
I do hope the developers do a new IP at the start of Vita/or for the next gen.

my god, FPS’s lead to online mutiplayer which in turn lead to this…..WHY DID WE TRY TO ADVANCE TO HD? WE NEED MORE RETRO TURNBASED RPGS TO SAVE US or NIS

It’s a sad state of affairs as I enjoy my SP experiences. SSM are capable developers, however, and the game could turn out awesome nonetheless. I fear some of the epic scale and cinematic awesomeness will have to be sacrificed with two players on the screen. Time will tell.

If that multiplayer thing turns out to be true, I’m going to throw something at a wall.
I like brutally murdering everything that so much as breathes within my line of sight by myself, Sony, don’t take that away from me! I don’t even want to start talking about how silly it is for Deimos to still be around, unless III’s ending just reset absolutely everything.
On the other hand, if they’ve managed to keep it a secret (relatively, we always knew there’d be another) up until now, congratulations go out to Sony. Between this and The Last Of Us, they’re getting better at actually keeping their secrets.

definitely looking bleak for the future gaming.
next gen(PS4,Wii U,Next Box, PS Vita, 3DS) will probably my last main gaming.
with all the dlc(could be good but it seems it’s going towards capcom style of pay), online passes, high prices, tacked on multiplayer, etc.
definitely not looking good.
still i’ll definitely enjoy 1 more generation of awesomness before everything turns into all profit and not make games for fun.
but we’ll see.

Well, some of the things like you mentioned were what annoyed me as well in this generation of gaming but that’s how most companies roll these days.
Also, majority of buyers these days would want to go on something that’s already familiar to them and if companies know that’s where the cash is rolling, they’ll keep on milking it. Kind of sad but that’s how things are right now.
This doesn’t apply only in video games but in other media like movies and comics as well.
Though releasing sequels or spin-offs from a familiar franchise isn’t always a bad thing, as long as it got quality and it’s something that you’ll love. Which is why I still love modern fighting games that were originally created in the 90′s. I’m also excited in Metal Gear Rising even though the Metal Gear franchise was over-used.
Besides, if the market was over-saturated by sequels and such, there’s always original and interesting games that will appear once in a while. All they just need is a huge (but not exactly millions) support of consumers.

Why??? Why anyone does not keep a brilliant franchises as it is? You all must ruin them right? I know we didn’t see anything about God of War IV but come on, what could possibly happen after the grand finale of God of War III? Kratos and Deimos in the Underworld eh? Well, correct me if I’m wrong but in the Ghost of Sparta, Deimos was killed….by the hand of THANATOS for God’s sake! Yeah! Thanatos is the God of Death! Sooo, Deimos’s soul went through the Realm of Hades, and when Hades is killed, all the souls of the Underworld got on loose. So technically, Deimos’s soul is wandering around the Earth now yeah? And when the Kratos killed himself in the end of God of War III, and when he disappeared, he died after that for sure, and his soul returned to the Realm of Hades…but oh, wait a sec, Hades was killed by the hand of Kratos and there is no God to guide the souls for the afterlife.
Well, excusé moi dear Santa Monica, how the f*** can you set the plot as “Kratos and Deimos escaping from the Underworld”???? Is it makes sense? No! Is it prints money? Hell yeah, so bring the f***ing sequel right?
I don’t understand it, they had countless possibilities to jump through a different mythology; Egypt, Nord, Roman… They could bring a new iconic anti-hero like Kratos… Instead of this possibilities, they stick the one thing I was afraid of; making a sequel to a perfect ending. Just like Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance. *sigh* Soon, there will be no game but casual FPSs and FarmVille type games. Because the hardcore games will become trashes.
Sorry for overrage, but I must write this.

The magazine is just speculating they aren’t saying anything is concrete. They were saying possible scenarios for god of war 4. Plus the date for mid 2012 i think is wrong because they usually release a game 9-12 months after they announce it. They haven’t even announced it yet. Kratos could still be alive seeing that athena is technically alive. But im sure they aren’t going to base the game on him escaping death because he escaped from it already. I don’t think it will have online multiplayer, it just wouldn’t work can you think of devil may cry, prince of persia, or dante’s inferno online? I think if it has online it will be more like online co op where you could play through the story with a friend online. I would rather they keep it the same tho no co op because if they make the story co op they will focus on making co op work with the way you fight and the story will suffer. I don’t think they will have him fight a new set of gods, because it would take more than one game. Maybe Athena, or the gods are alive on another plane like Athena and he will go kill them for good this time. Oh and metal gear rising doesn’t have anything storywise related to metal gear 4. Its like a spin off of the series.

Stop the mythological things and the imagined thoughts and let’s think about the relevant kicks. This is it.Hades is dead now, not being able to keep any soul, freeing every soul by kratos.Hah,well this makes god of war 4,new forms of the gods.By the way this story is not true, it is a MYTHOLOGY STORY.

Yes of course,we need more RETRO.But the world is moving forward so FORGET the past.

woooo! i guess god of war it would be there best game ever, even than grand theft5 but i can wait to share and explore…

Honestly, complaining about the rumor of online co-op is pointless. If you have ever played resident evil 5 you can tell that an online co-op with only one single player can be even better then playing by yourself. Plus if online is available you have to choose to play online or with another person, if you don’t like online then don’t play it. I don’t think the makers of the god of war series would not let the story line suffer over something as unimportant as online co-op.
